MIP: cecilia forest

Concept

orderd and organic

Creating a transition area, that will inform the public of the biodiversity restoration. The building should act as a transition space, a threshold where all the speculations become clear. It should tell a story of rebirth and re-newel.

A natural structure, recognizing routes, roots, trees and natural features of the site

The building spanning across the uneven landscape, where all the information of what is going to happen to rehabilitate the site is presented. And this threshold widens to the end to symbolize hope and rebirth.

Project 3: Kalk bay NSRI

Concept:

Everything is conected to the ocean, creating a passage into the ocean.

Everything is connected to the ocean. – the mountain is connected by the green finger
the restaurants to the fisherman, the fisherman to the fish the fish to the ocean, the buildings orientated to the view, passages are created all leading to the ocean, the harbour entrance leading to the open ocean, the entrance to the harbour intersected by the rail road, and I wanted to create a building that does the same. Connecting people to the ocean and educating them thereof.

The ocean, the provider, the taker. The smell of iron (thick red on the floor) waves smashing against the harbour walls. Fishermen, leather skin and calast hands back from the deep. Sea gulls floating above. People rushing from their cars to get the biggest yellow tail first. And the smell of slap chips.

Project 2: Artist retreat

Concept:
Life journey, wall devining elements
Willie Bester talked allot about his life,s jouney growing up in Montague during the apartheid era and being oppressed, till, now finaly being celebrated as an artist.

A journey is taken to arrive at the location and then entering the property through an enclosed space representing the oppression and the first sight as you approach is the re bars protruding from a large wall plane configured to be militaristic and oppressive. Then entering living spaces through a large door and immediately viewing everyday living areas like a featured braai and Dover stove, daybeds etc. Moving through life ”living spaces” and series of life's up and downs as floor levels and stories change. At the back of the building (through his art) art studio exiting and entering the open space of the desert. And just above that an meditation space where you are not able to see any part of the building butt the large rammed earth walls and nature.

Project1: Community hub

Concept:
contracting and expanding
the structure expands as the sun rises and people flow into the city, and contracts as the people
leave the city with busses trains and taxis returning to the suburbs.
open and enviting, expanding and exciting.

the buildings walls flip up creating exterior roofs and other walls falling down to open
up creating an exterior platform area with asian tables and a valcro finnish to floors
so pillows can be moved and when the wall is turned upright again it sticks to the wall.

inspired by the I-box as being a versatile structure that is able to expand and contract.Using swiveling components to extend and adapt.

a person can log on to wi-fi in and around the hub, surf the web, view local brake dancers or a ballet student practicing Scheherezade...
